In a movement to empower people worldwide to express themselves, Ottawa-based Bboyizm Dance Company has taken the dance world by storm. With extraordinary street dance moves and heavy beats, the troupe performs with amazing creativity, always emanating their motto, ‘Dance to express! Not to impress!’
In this piece the BBOYIZM artists combine costumes, music and dance to take you on a time travel trip that brings you back to the era where street dances gained their popularity: the Funk Era (Soul Train). Using the same combination, BBOYIZM then brings you to the time where Adidas sweat suits, rap music and B-boying (Breaking) became an international phenomenon. The competition between dancers is one of the reasons this dance has evolved into arguably one of the most sought-after dance in modern times. In the third part of the show the audience is asked to participate as judges of the dance competition, more commonly known as a ‘Battle’ in the street dance world.
Yvon Soglo (B-boy Crazy Smooth) brings together some of the best street dancers in Canada to present an interactive show that will amaze young audiences and adults alike, while educating them on the evolution of the dance.
