‘Sadie Off the Rails’ was inspired by the true story of Miss Sadie Calhoun, a vaudeville stage and moving pictures star who visited Prince Edward Island in the early 1900s and performed many hit shows to sold-out houses.
The cast will take an imaginary trip by train across the Island, visiting the people and places that will be familiar with many of our audience members.
David Weale, of the Four Tellers, will open the show!

SONGS AND STORIES
RUM RUNNING ON PEI
FISH CAKES AND BEANS
ROWENA AND HANK STINSON
In 1902 the government of Prince Edward Island banned the sale of alcohol to it’s citizens thus beginning the longest, most successful cottage industry the Island has ever known. For nearly fifty years rum running and bootlegging provided a living for countless Islanders and fortunes for a few enterprising businessmen including Captain Edward Dicks from Georgetown. His legendary rum running schooner, The Nellie J Banks, was eventually seized by the prohibition police and hauled into the government wharf in Charlottetown. Captain Dicks was thrown into jail and subsequently prosecuted by the Canadian Department of Customs and Excise. But we don’t want to give everything away, so come to the King’s Playhouse in Georgetown and find out how it all ended.
