On Friday, December 21st, Island-born and bred comedian Justin Shaw is coming to King’s Playhouse for an evening of comedy. Offering his off-beat (and often peculiar) perspective of the world, Shaw is bringing home-spun tales of family, friends, and, unfortunately, romance.
King’s County residents may remember Shaw as the lad who washed dishes at the Whim Inn at Poole’s Corner one million years ago. Island audiences may recognize Shaw from Charlottetown stages, having performed with Popalopalots Live Improv Comedy and Vagabond Productions. In the past three years, Shaw has been involved in a number of successful Island Fringe Festival productions, including Nutshell, The Wrestling Play, and Half A Star.
Since leaving home, Shaw has performed around Montreal, earning the Triple Crown Comedy Award at Montreal’s Comedyworks. After moving to Fort McMurray to work in the arts (yes, you read that correctly) Shaw has had the privilege of hosting the Wood Buffalo Excellence In Arts Awards, and opening for Mike MacDonald.
Performing in King’s County holds a special place in Shaw’s heart.
“PEI is my favourite place in the world,” says Shaw. “Audiences and artists alike have such a shared love of storytelling that keeps communities and families together with a stronger sense of identity. I’m performing at the King’s Playhouse hall to connect to my community roots, and so my parents don’t have to drive over the bridge in case it snows.”
Come to King’s Playhouse performance hall on Friday, December 21st at 8:00pm ($20.00 plus tax) for an unforgettable evening of comedy and home-spun stories performed by Prince Edward Island’s sentimental dingus, Justin Shaw.
This event is presented by Anthony Delodder, PEI Real Estate Sales Representative. For more show information, contact email@example.com. Follow @wrath_of_shaw (Facebook, IG, Twitter) for show updates.
DuffleBag Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast
The “Nearly World-Famous” DuffleBag Theatre brings the classic fairy-tale of Beauty and the Beast to life in their signature fun-filled and humorous fashion: using audience members as the stars!
When an egotistical, arrogant prince unkindly turns an old woman from his castle door on a dark and stormy night, he is taught a lesson in caring more about others than for himself. For his rudeness, the old woman magically transforms him into a “Horrible, Nasty Beast!” who is forced to hide in his castle, away from humanity, and care for an enchanted rose.
The Beast only begins to change his ways when he encounters Beauty, a daring young girl from the nearby village, who stumbles across his castle while searching for her missing father in the forest. Beauty finds her father has been imprisoned by the Beast for harming his enchanted rose. Determined to gain his freedom, Beauty suggests that she take his place instead. Impressed by Beauty’s noble self-sacrifice, the Beast frees her father– but instead of keeping Beauty as a prisoner, he invites her to be his guest. During her stay, she realizes that the Beast is not as bad as he appears, and she brings his good qualities to the forefront. When her father returns to free her with the help of Gaston de la Fromage, the notorious “beast-vanquisher,” everyone discovers that there might be some beauty in the Beast after all!
Since 1992, audiences across Canada, the United States, and internationally in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Vietnam, children and adults alike have been enchanted and enthralled by the wit, clever stagecraft, energetic performances, and audience interaction of a DuffleBag Theatre performance. When the audience is the star, everyone’s dream of living a fairy tale can come true with the “Nearly World-Famous” DuffleBag Theatre!
